Project Type

Medical Imaging Software

Client

iMedical Inc, Portugal

Duration

4 Months

Task

OHIF Customization, UI/UX Design, Tool Development, WADO Server Development, Database Integration, Testing

A highly specialized custom medical image viewer built for iMedical Inc in Portugal, featuring advanced diagnostic tools and seamless integration capabilities. This project involved extensive customization of the open-source OHIF DICOM viewer, transforming it into a tailored solution with specific clinical functionalities required by the client. The viewer includes sophisticated features like Cobb angle measurements for spinal assessment, customizable windowing presets for different tissue types, series synchronization for comparative analysis, and flexible annotation layouts for radiological reporting. To support the viewer's functionality, we developed a custom WADO (Web Access to DICOM Objects) server using ASP.NET and PostgreSQL database, ensuring efficient study retrieval and management.

The Challenge

iMedical Inc required a medical image viewer that went beyond standard DICOM viewing capabilities. They needed specific clinical tools for specialized diagnostic workflows, particularly in orthopedics and radiology. The existing open-source solutions lacked the precise functionality and customized user interface required for their clinical practice.

Additionally, they needed a robust backend infrastructure to handle DICOM study management and provide fast, reliable access to medical imaging data through WADO protocols.

Our Solution

Custom Cobb angle measurement tool for spinal curvature analysis

Advanced windowing presets optimized for different tissue types

Multi-series synchronization for side-by-side comparison

Flexible annotation layouts for comprehensive reporting

Customized OHIF viewer with tailored look and feel

ASP.NET-based custom WADO server for efficient image retrieval

PostgreSQL database integration for study management

Enhanced diagnostic tools built on OHIF framework

Optimized performance for clinical workflow efficiency

DICOM-compliant image handling and processing

Development Process

Our development approach combined open-source innovation with custom engineering, leveraging the OHIF framework while building specialized tools and backend infrastructure to meet specific clinical requirements.
