A mission-critical cardiac contour refinement tool developed under urgent timeline to save a clinical trial for Heart Health. The Delta Nudge tool addresses the critical need for precise manual adjustment of AI-generated cardiac boundary predictions. While AI models provide initial endocardium and epicardium contour predictions, clinical accuracy demands sophisticated manual refinement capabilities.

This innovative tool enables radiologists to make minimalistic, incremental adjustments to freehand ROI drawings with unprecedented precision and ease of use. Built on the DICOM image viewer using React.js and Cornerstone.js components, the tool provides an intuitive interface for fine-tuning cardiac boundaries, which are then used for calcification calculations essential to accurate cardiac diagnosis.

The project exemplified exceptional engineering agility when clinical feedback revealed the previous tool was not user-friendly, threatening the clinical trial timeline. Our team executed a rapid turnaround, redesigning and redeveloping the tool to meet clinical requirements and earn high appreciation from the client for technical skills and dedication.

The Critical Challenge

Heart Health faced a clinical trial emergency when radiologists reported that the existing boundary adjustment tool was not user-friendly for the precise work required in cardiac imaging analysis. AI-generated endocardium and epicardium contours needed frequent manual refinement, but the tool's interface made incremental adjustments difficult and time-consuming.

The clinical trial was at risk due to workflow inefficiencies and radiologist frustration. The challenge required not just technical improvement but a complete UX reimagining under extreme time pressure, as any delay could compromise months of clinical research work and patient data collection.
